Lectures to my Students

Charles Haddon Spurgeon (1834-92) was England’s best-known preacher for most of the 1800’s. Spurgeon frequently preached to audiences numbering more than 10,000, keep in mind this happened in the days before electronic amplification. He talked about the joys and worries of ordinary people and about how Jesus could help. He used stories to keep people interested, spoke with power and had a great sense of humor.
In addition to his regular pastoral duties, Spurgeon founded Sunday schools, churches, an orphanage, and a Pastor’s College. This book was born out of the Pastor’s College. This book is a collection of lectures Spurgeon gave to his seminary students. Spurgeon wrote more than 135 books, however Lectures to my Students is considered by many to be his greatest contribution to the Christian world.
Lectures really is a treasure. If you get the book and start reading it and decide that I was a weirdo for recommending it, then I recommend that you put it on the shelf for about 5 years and then give it another go or maybe try one of his other 135 books. Spurgeon is one of those dead guys who can really mentor your socks off.

He is good. I have read some of his daily devotionals and printed a few out even. I may look into this. I’ll be very busy with college now so it’ll be tough.
